It is the top football club in the world in terms of the huge social media fan following.

FC Barcelona was founded in 1899 by Joan Gamper and other young foreigners living in Barcelona. In the first decade itself the club grew rapidly as the number of members in the club increased from 201 to 2973. 1954, stands as a landmark year in the history of the club as The Camp Nou building works began in that year and were completed three years later with the total cost of 288,088,143 pesetas. The stadium had a capacity of 93,503 spectators at that time. Today, it is the largest football stadium in the Europe accommodating more than 98000 people. The 1970-80s decade was a glorious time for the club with players like Maradona, Quini, and Schuster playing during that period. 1992, was also a memorable year with the ‘Dream Team’ of European Football consisting of players like Bakero, Laudrup, Koeman, Zubizarraeta, Amar, Guradiola and others  winning the European Cup for the club. The club also won the second European title under the leadership of Ronaldinho.

In 2009, the club has won six major trophies including two Champions Leagues and three Spanish Leagues, plus the long-awaited Clubs World Cup, something unprecedented in the history of European football. In 2010, the club created history when three players (Messi, Iniesta and Xavi) from its youth academy were given the best players in the world award in the FIFA Ballon d’Or awards.

Xavi Hernandez holds the record of the most matches played (767) by an individual for the club whereas messi hold the record of highest goals for the club (440). The current squad of the club consists of stars like Messi, Neymar, Iniesta, Luis Suárez and others.
