The Hewlett-Packard Company, commonly known as HP, was founded by William Hewlett and David Packard in 1939.


It is headquartered in Paulo Alto, California and employs around 302,000 people. The sectors in which HP operates are Financing, Hardware, Services and Software.


Being a consistent major player in PC market on the global platform, the firm holds around 15-20 % market share. The multinational corporation is comprised of major business units namely- Personal and Printing Systems Group, Enterprise Group, Enterprise Services, Software, HP Financial Services and Corporate Investments. Out of the total revenue of HP in 2015, 51% was contributed by the Personal (59.7%) and Printing Systems Group (40.28%), 27% was contributed by Enterprise Group,19% was contributed by Enterprise Services,3% was contributed by Software and HP Financial Services and only 0.02% was contributed by Corporate Investments. Printers and Scanners, Notebooks, Servers, Desktops, Digital Cameras, PDA, Workstations, Accessories etc. form the product line offered by HP under Personal and Printing Systems. The company also announced new products within the Group at the 2015 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) adding diversity to the existing product portfolio. On May 17, 2016, HP Inc. in partnership with Nike and BMW, presented the World’s first commercial 3D printers at RAPID, the largest 3D additive manufacturing conference held in Orlando, FL.

On November 1, 2015 the company split into two publically traded companies, HP Inc. and Hewlett Packard Enterprise focusing on the Personal Computers & Printers business and hardware, software & services business respectively. Some of the major events which led to HP’s tremendous boost of revenues are: spin off of its electronic and bio-analytical measurement instruments business Agilent Technologies, merger with technological firm Compaq for manufacture of computer hardware and peripherals and acquisition of EDS. Some of the very recent acquisitions by HP include: Voltage Security - Cloud Security Software, Aruba Networks - Mobile Networking firm, ConteXtream - Networking Software and Trilead - Data Protection Software. The revenue and profits are considered for printers and PC business only.
