Bayerische Motoren Werke (BMW) is a German Luxury vehicles, motorcycles and Engine manufacturing company, which was founded by Franz Josef Popp, Karl Rapp & Camillo Castiglioni in 1916.
The company is present in Munich, Bavaria, Germany & is one of the best-selling automakers in the world. Dixi – based on Austin 7 and licensed from Austin Motor Company, was the 1st car which BMW successfully produced and launched on the road.
Talking about BMW products portfolio, it has Mini cars and is also the owner of Rolls-Royce Motor Sports. BMW Motorrad and BMW I sub-brand are the brands under which it produces motorcycles and plug-in-electric cars, respectively. In Motorcycles portfolio, their first successful motorcycle was “R32” in 1923. Like the R32 layout, many BMW‘s are still producing under R-series. In 1982, BMW came with K-series, with some advanced specifications and technological interventions in motorcycles business. After short duration, it also started making chain driven F and G series.
The new class was a line of compact sedans in automobiles portfolio. There are so many types available in this portfolio, like ‘3 series - compact executive cars’, ‘5 series – midsized executive cars’, ‘7 series – full size flagship executive sedan’, ‘X3 – sports activity vehicle’, etc. It also produces High performance derivative cars under BMW M GmbH subsidiary.
From 1923, BMW is in Motorsports’ activities. BMW is sponsoring Formula BMW – junior racing Formula Category and Kumho BMW championship. BMW motorbikes have won the Dakar Rally six times. Also, success in Formula One championship is also noticeable point when it comes to BMW. BMW makes Touring cars as well as Sports cars.
BMW has a global presence in most developed and developing countries. BMW has subsidiaries in Brazil, China, Canada, India, Egypt, Japan, Mexico, South Africa and United States.
BMW launched SUV “X1” at just Rs. 22 lakhs as cheapest but luxurious car in their category. BMW is launching two new cars in India in next 1 year period, BMW 1 series sedan and BMW X4.
