Known for its ‘31 flavors’ slogan, Baskin-Robbins is the world’s largest ice cream chain, having a global reach and a good brand recall.
The slogan was designed with the idea that a customer can have a different every day of a month. The famous pink spoons were also designed to make ice-cream choice hassle free for the customers as they believed that customers should be able to sample the flavors before choosing.
It operates in 7627 outlets spread over 45 countries and has introduced more than 100 flavors since 1945. Founded by two brother in laws, Burt Baskin and Irv Robbins in Glendale, California in 1945, Baskin Robbins was started with the concept of the most innovative ice-cream parlour in that would be a gathering place for friends and families. They still follow the franchise model set up by Burt Baskins and Irv Robbins at the beginning of the store. Their stores are visited by 300 million customers every year. As the story goes, the two brother in laws flipped a coin to see whose first name would come. It could have easily named Robbins-Baskin.
It holds two world records- one was made in celebration for its 60th birthday for the largest cup of ice cream that was made on September 13, 2005, a massive chunk of vanilla ice cream weighing 8,865 pounds. The other second one was created in 2000 for largest ice-cream scoop pyramid and it had 3100 scoops of ice-cream. Even today, Baskin-Robbins follow the same franchise model that was set up by Burt and Irv.
