Viacom Inc., short for ‘Video and Audio Communications’ is USA based multinational mass media company primarily focussed at cinema and cable television.

CBS corporation held the major voting rights in Viacom, and the company was created in 2005 through the spin-off of CBS corporation. Viacom owns BET network Viacom Media Networks, and Paramount Pictures and operates 170 television channels to serve 700 million subscribers across the world.


Viacom Inc runs a number of subsidiaries in six segments such as cable networks; television; radio; outdoor; entertainment; and video.

Very popular among cable viewers are MTV, Nick at Night, Nickelodeon, VH1, and Showtime. Flagship channel of the company, MTV, focuses on younger viewers and continues to attract one of the largest television audiences in the 18-34 age groups. Nickelodeon, meanwhile, has become a popular destination for children's programming.
