Skoda is one of the fastest growing auto manufacturers in Europe and its Indian arm is the subsidiary of Skoda Auto of the Volkswagen Group. It began its operations in India in November 2001. It has set up a manufacturing plant having a spread across 300,000 square meters at Aurangabad. This set up has a capacity of 40,000 vehicles annually. The facility is also used to build some Audi models for the country. Skoda also uses the Volkswagen factory, also at Pune, to build some of its models. It is currently selling 5 models in the country – Octavia, Fabia, Laura, Superb, Yeti and the more recently launched Rapid. The Octavia was the first locally built Skoda car to be introduced in the country. In 2011, the company sold 30,005 units which was a 50% rise in sales compared to the preceding year. It has a pan-India network of 106 outlets.
