The Australian Telecommunications market has seen a volume increase of around 3.1% in 2012 to reach 30.3 million customers. It is forecast to see a 23.4% rise in volume by 2017 to reach around 37.5 million customers. Listed below is the top ten telecommunications company in Australia based on publicly available revenue data in 2014.

 

10. Freshtel


Freshtel Holdings Ltd is a telephony company based in Australia. It is involved in developing and marketing Voice-over-internet Protocol (VoIP) products and services. It is a global provider of VoIP solutions through Voicedot, Virbiage, which are its wholly owned subsidiary servicing the wholesale customer segment. It also has a direct-to-market retail channel under the brand Freshtel Pvt Ltd.

In December 2005, it was contracted by Tesco for the UK market. It was to provide white label Internet telephony solutions. At the same time, Tesco acquired a 6% stake in the company while was increased to 12% by November 2006. However, this UK activity led to significant losses to the tune of its transfer costs which had contributed to over 70% of its revenue. In February 2010, the agreement with Tesco for VoIP solutions was terminated and by May the same year, the company sold its UK operation for $150,000.
