Employees skills are the foundation for any company to grow. Employees are needed in companies solely based on their competencies and skills which fulfil a particular role or profile in a company. A collective effort of skillful employees leads to the momentum which helps companies achieve their goals. Either skilled employees are hired or they are nurtured in companies with training and development programs. But with the advancement in technology, a lot of human skills and work are being replaced by machines, programs and softwares.

From one perspective automation leaves a fear that the world would run out of jobs. This is because machines are more fast, tireless, reliable, accurate etc as compared to humans. On the contrary, the other perspective is that automation would leave humans with better work to do rather than doing routine mundane work. Automation and machine-based learning is picking up pace in leaps and bounces. And hence the need of the hour for companies is to reskill the employees.

Adoption of technology and automation leaves a huge opportunity for companies. Automation helps companies achieve faster work-rate in a quicker time. It also enables companies to have reduced error and a faster turn around time. More importantly, this presents an opportunity to maximize the efficiency of employees. These days companies are investing heavily in ensuring that their employees are getting the latest skills required to move ahead with automation. 1. From Labor to Decision Maker

Companies have always hired employees to perform certain tasks. Factory workers are used to work in industrial units, brand artists are used to make creatives, finance managers are required to do the taxes and henceforth. These have been the old-age roles which employees have been doing. Each job profile requires a particular skill, which is possessed by employees. With automation through output-defined machinery, software and machine-based programs, these activities have made human effort redundant. Machines can carry out more tasks day and night, round the year, without getting tired & with lesser faults. This gives employees time to do more qualitative work. And hence employees become profound decision makers who focus on business strategy rather than doing routine work daily.

Employees were needed by companies for there knowledge they had possessed on the basis of education. Experts were needed to calculations on business, based on past data they would be needed to make forecasts and also, they would also calculate financial performances, profits etc. However, nowadays calculations, forecasting, measuring financial performances etc are all calculated by automated programs. Thus, all the calculations are done by computers & softwares only. This enables employees to be data & business analysts which helps in preparing better strategies for business growth. Doing calculations manually can lead to errors which are mitigated by error-free programs which do end to end calculations over a specific period of time. Thus, automation leads to an opportunity to become from a calculator to an analyst.

 

3. From Monotony to Spontaneity

Over the years employees have had certain skills which are used to carry out certain business activities. These tasks performed by employees are done repeatedly over a period of time. This becomes the main activities and key responsibilities of the employees. However, this repetitive work becomes monotonous for the workers and they tend to lose motivation as employees. Employees tend to become frustrated with the same repetitive work which is dull and uninteresting. Because of automation, employees tend to have much more quality time at their hands and they can do more experiments, pilots, surveys etc which would help them get more business knowledge, make better strategies and increase business.

 

Automation is the way of life in the future. Organizations are adopting newer techniques, better technologies, robots, automated processes etc to make businesses more stream lined, faster, error free etc. This would help in reducing redundancies, improving productivity and making businesses more efficient. However, this would put pressure on employees to contribute more towards the organization. And this can be achieved by reskilling employees to compliment automation & machine-based solution.
