Definition: Market Value

At a given time the current price of a share, stock, bond or any kind of security at which the investor buys or sells the same is known as Market Price of the same.

The total market value can be defined as the sum of the market capitalization of the shares and the market value of debt.

Market value can also be calculated for any other form of asset that the company has, it can be land, building, machinery etc.  The company should know the market value of its assets because if the company wants to sell its assets, it helps in determining the asking price.
