Definition: Affidavit of Performance

An Affidavit of Performance is a signed and notarized form, or proof of services rendered, made under penalty of perjury that is submitted by a broadcaster to an advertiser. The affidavit is a legal proof that a particular service has been rendered as per the specifications.

The document acts a guideline for the broadcasters and the advertisers as to how, when, what time etc the ad or commercial has to be showcased.  The specifications given by the advertiser are clearly mentioned in the affidavit.

The affidavit is generally enclosed with the invoice sent to an advertiser company by a broadcaster company. It documents the content, the cost and the timing of the advertiser party’s commercials after the broadcast of those commercials. The document was developed by the Association of National Advertisers and the Radio and Television Advertising Bureau as a control mechanism to check fraud.
