Definition: Billboard

A billboard is a large outdoor advertising structure (a billing board), which is usually found in high-traffic areas such as at the side of busy roads or in crowded market place.

They provide a good advertisement opportunity to passing pedestrians and drivers. Typically billboards show large, seemingly witty slogans, and unique visuals, billboards are highly noticeable in the top designated market areas. Bulletins are the largest standard-size billboards. Located primarily on major highways, expressways or prime arterials, they provide high-density consumer exposure.

The billboards are usually seen while being passed at high speeds & therefore have to be read in very short span of time .Thus there are usually only a few words, in large font, and a humorous or arresting image in vibrant color which could catch the eye of passers. There can be printed as well as digital billboards.

A billboard is usually charged on the following three factors:

i) The amount of traffic that passes its location

ii) Its visibility

iii) Its size
