Definition: Proof of Purchase

It can be any one of the following mentioned evidence of actual purchase of the product.

1. Sales slip/invoice

2. Label

3. Box top

4. Unique codes on packaging



A proof of purchase may be used by vendors/ distributors as a proof to claim vendor refunds. It can also be used as evidence that the customer actually purchased a product to claim sales promotions and manufacturer rebates.

Nowadays, proof of purchase is also being used for gathering data for designing loyalty systems and profiling of customers.

When multiple purchases are required to claim rebates by showing proof of purchase it is called collector mechanic or premium incentive.
