Definition: Carton Flow Rack

Carton flow is one of the most efficient and sophisticated methods of loading of materials in a shelf in a warehouse. Here, the shelf is made of a number of inclined runways one above the other.

The basic principle on which Carton Flow works is FIFO or First In First Out.

Here, once an item is unloaded from the front, the next in line item moves ahead and takes its place.

An advantage of this system over the conventional static shelfing system is that the merchandise remains better organised and is easy to locate and pick as well. Also, the warehouse inventory is easier to monitor and control for accounting purposes. A significant advantage of this method is that it offers up to 75% savings in labour.
