Definition: Cartage

Cartage is the process of transferring goods over a short distance. It could also mean transporting goods within city. For example- a pharmaceutical wholesale supplier having warehouses across the city and continuously transporting to various medical shops of the city. He is cartaging medicines to those shops.

Cartage term can also be used for transportation of raw material etc within one place to other in plant since only limited and short distance is involved. For example- A power plant located only few kilometers from a coal mine. A conveyer belt is established between coal mine and power plant coal repository. This transportation of coal at short distance can also be classified as Cartage.

Cartage can also be referred to fair charged for transportation of goods and material.
