Definition: Line Functions

Line function is when any kind of daily function such as purchasing, manufacturing, selling etc directly involved in carrying out purpose of the organization. Series of line functions performed in an order by trained labor results in completion of organizational goal.

Example- Goal for a particular project of a construction company can be completing construction of a building within given time. There are various steps involved getting all the legal permissions, procuring raw materials, employing labor, transporting procured raw material to site, paying wages to labor at time, getting labor with different skills for plumbing & electric work, arranging continuous water supply.

All these steps together lead to completion of construction thus all of them can be termed as line functions
