Definition: QR Code

Quick Response Code commonly known QR code are one of the type of two-dimensional bar code initially introduced in automobile industry.  Recently it has become very popular due to its ease of use and storage capacity.

It consists of black squares of different sizes placed on white background forming unique patterns. It can encode four different standardized types of data namely numeric, alphanumeric, binary, and kanji or it can use any other data type through any other supported extension.

This QR codes were first introduced by Denso in 1994 to track its work in progress inventory during manufacturing of its vehicles. Denso holds patent for this code but they have not exercised their rights and thus its free for use for all of us.
