Valhalla - the flagship sports and cultural event of XLRI, Jamshedpur is just round the corner as more and more enthusiasts are jumping on to the bandwagon. Having been conceptualized in 2012, the third edition of Valhalla is slated to be an even grander affair with more participants, more events and more fun. Spanning over 3 days in the penultimate week of July, it encompasses over 50 events and witnesses footfall of over 3000 people with participation from some of the best B-Schools in India including IIM-Calcutta, IIM-Ranchi, XIMB ,IIM- Raipur, FMS, SIBM, and NMIMS .
Standing by the founding values of XLRI - “For the Greater Good”, Valhalla is not just any other Cultural Festival, but an instrument of change as well. With pro-nites in the previous editions having witnessed the likes of Euphoria and Benny Dayal enthralling the citizens of Jamshedpur, the latest edition of Valhalla takes pro-nights to a different level with not just one but two bands performing at the iconic Tata Auditorium. The raw audacity of the ‘India’s Got Talent’ fame rock band Underground Authority matching its beats to the soulful renditions of the acclaimed folk fusion band Swarathma to portray the perfect symbolism of our theme for Valhalla 2014- “Celebrating Contrasts”. Till the last edition the proceeds of the pro-show were donated to the Milaap Foundation, a fund-raising platform that enables people around the world to fund and impact communities in need of basic facilities in India. This time round, we will be collaborating with the Ability Unlimited Foundation (AUF), a Delhi based foundation which is doing truly commendable work in reaching out to differently-abled citizens of all ages right from providing them all amenities, education, vocational training and meaningful opportunities to earn their livelihoods.
The extravaganza flags off on the evening of the 25th of July with the Ability Unlimited Concert, a string of scintillating performances by differently abled artists on wheel chairs. Valhalla, as part of its initiative to inspire the young sparks of the nation, has invited students and faculty of around 40 schools from across the city to be a part of this noble initiative. We are also organizing a painting competition across these schools on the theme “Celebrating Contrasts” to commemorate the spirit of Valhalla. Another cornerstone of Valhalla is the 5th Annual Jamshedpur Run, a part of our continued efforts of promoting social harmony and youth empowerment. The mini marathon (with track lengths of 5 and 10 km) will aim to congregate the youth and sensitize them towards their individual social responsibility of bringing more smiles in the lives of strangers in whichever way – small or big – they can. In 2013, more than 700 people participated and this year we expect the turn out to exceed 1,000 as we expand our scale. The run is scheduled for Sunday, July 27 2014, 6:30 am. It will be flagged off from the XLRI main gate, by the legendary mountaineer, Ms. Bachendri Pal, Head Tata Steel Adventure Foundation and Mr. Tarun Daga, the Chairman CII (Jharkhand).
